There were four models available with different pickup and tailpiece configurations. Previously they used designations like "Junior", "Special", "Standard" and "Custom" to distinguish these different models, but on the Firebird line they used Roman numerals I, II, III and IV. The Firebird was introduced to compete with Fender's solid body guitars.
