Lalaing was originally manufactured at Val Saint Lambert in Belgium, but was for a short period of time manufactured at Holmegaard Glasvrk. The two glassworks entered into the first import agreement in 1871 for 34 glass services, which was renegotiated several times and greatly reduced. However, Lalaing remained an imported product until World War I, when Holmegaard obtained a license to manufacture the glass and continued to do so
