It locks its grips into the piston so you can concentrate your efforts on turning the piston and pulling it out without having to grip hard to hold the tool in the piston as well. Whilst it isn't as good as the piston removal kit, it is considerably better than the plier style tools. If you're restoring rough old bikes this is the tool.
