There is a hint of Whistler and Roussel in the cropping and frontality of this composition. No wonder, Beurdeley's framing of the figures in a doorway was also a familiar compositional device of Whistler's and Jacques Beurdeley's father Paul Beurdeley happened to be a good friend of Whistler.
